SMS Notifier

Amitec SMS Notifier is a product allowing PI System Notifications to be delivered as SMS, ensuring important notifications don’t go unnoticed. We recommend delivering notifications with high priority as SMS, while continuing email delivery for your regular feedback.

Our product has been around since 2009, and has evolved along the way. Initially, it supported various online SMS Gateways you would have separate subscriptions with, but we’ve now standardized on a single communication API from Vonage – and both the license and the usage are invoiced monthly from Amitec.

To reach this communication API, our solution includes a server component to be installed in a server with internet access. We will need to send outbound traffic over HTTPS with port 443, and we’ll provide the endpoint URL, so you can whitelist this in your firewall.

The server component will in turn communicate with your AF Server, where we need to set up a few things before you can get started. Under the hood, we utilize the built-in web service delivery channel for the PI Notifications – instead of the more commonly used email delivery channel.

In the Vonage communication API, we set up a sub-account under our company subscription, and any usage will be invoiced from Amitec on a monthly basis.
We also require the registration of a custom data reference in PI AF, and this is where the configuration UI is provided.

The usage is simple, as our product integrates with your PI System Explorer and PI AF Server. You can configure registered users in PI System Explorer (native or synchronized with Active Directory) to be receivers of notifications.
